Abbé Franz Stock"Abbé Franz Stock – that is no name, it is a program!“ Nuntius Roncalli, who became later Pope John XXIII. said this on February 28, 1948, when carrying out consecration of the deceased. During July 1962 he repeated these words in front of an international pilgrim group. “...the priest Franz Stock, we said so on the day of his funeral, when bestowing absolutio ad tumbam – this is not only a name – it is a program. Now after fourteen years have passed, we do wish to repeat the very same words.“

ModellThe Project

The preservation of the ancient camp and especially of the camp chapel of the barbed wire seminary in Le Coudray near Chartres (Biography of Franz Stock, Barbed Wire Seminary) has been, for a long period of time, an aspiration of the three Franz Stock committees in Germany and France. It has been their aim to purchase the premises, to restore the old camp chapel, a monument to be protected, and to create an European Meeting Place in the spirit of the German-French friendship treaty. The project was deadlocked for a longer period of time pending clarification of the future ownership title for the (former) military area as well as the question of a joint concept for its use and in particular its overall financing:

Elternhaus Stock The Parental Home of Franz Stock is the
Memorial Site and Meeting Centre "Abbé Franz Stock"

Franz Stock has grown up in this house. Here he experienced love and care and an open Christian spirit.

Schoolmates and friends often took part of this atmosphere and met in groups for discussions or for the manufacture of items for personal use. His helper were always also his brothers and sisters. The catholic youth movement broadened the horizon for Franz Stock. Thus young Frenchmen did not fail to be present in his parental home and lingered there.
